About This Role:

An analyst is at the core of what Forrester is and does: They are the rock stars of our business, consulting and assisting senior leaders in large organizations by writing innovative research and delivering advice through written reports, consulting, client inquiries, and speeches. As a part of Forrester’s marketing and strategy research team in China, this senior-level Analyst serves digital strategy leaders who are responsible for developing and executing the digital marketing and digital commerce strategies for their brand or company across interactive and traditional channels. To fill this high-profile and high-visibility role, we are specifically looking for a candidate with a digital strategy background who has experience with large banks or insurance companies or financial technology (Fintech) companies in China.

The successful candidate is a compelling and clear writer and presenter and has successfully developed strong professional relationships with senior-level digital marketing and digital commerce professionals in the financial services industry and beyond. He/she will be able to advise senior leaders on the trends in Chinese consumer behaviors related to marketing and commerce, the strategy and execution of digital marketing and digital commerce to capture the opportunity in China, and the marketing technology and platforms required to support their efforts. Successful candidates will have a strong understanding of the marketing and technology issues facing senior digital marketing and digital commerce professionals in China today and an appetite for conducting and writing research to stay abreast of these issues.

Responsibilities

The candidate for this position works as part of a small high-performance team and collaborates with others in all aspects of the job. They are expected to:

  • Develop a deep understanding of what Forrester clients working in China in the Financial Services industry require to be successful as Digital Strategy Professionals.
  • Conduct research on key topics that are top of mind for senior Digital Strategy Professionals, including strategy formulation, governance, execution, organization, culture, process and talent, technology, vendor management, and data analysis.
  • Conduct research and demonstrate mastery of the evolving digital strategies and channels.
  • Help define the future of the digital financial services landscape in China by painting an accurate, forward-looking view and predicting the effect of new technologies and strategies (open banking, mobile payments, digital money management, peer-to-peer lending, automated investment services (robo-advisors)…).
  • Help clients identify which technologies matter by painting a forward-looking vision and predicting the effect of emerging trends, technologies, and strategies. A specific knowledge of the unique social and Internet platforms in China, like WeChat or Weibo, is a must.
  • Write four long research documents per year that convey new ideas in a rich business context. These reports typically include: 1) introducing new thinking about successful digital strategies for banks and insurance with best and next practices; 2) presenting successful case studies; 3) comparing new digital technologies or services and their potential to help banks and insurance solve their business challenges; and/or 4) analyzing changing financial consumer behaviors.
  • Write eight short research documents per year on digital technologies, industry events, and/or competitive market dynamics.
  • Consult with clients to apply Forrester’s research in the context of their specific business environment, and help solve their problems through inquiry and advisory.
  • Present at Forrester-sponsored and financial services related events, and deliver client webinars.
  • Establish an industry presence as an influential speaker and thinker. Build relationships with senior digital strategy professionals, as well as with the technology vendors that serve them and the journalists who cover the sector. Participate in vendor briefings and field press inquiries as necessary.
  • Embrace social tools as part of the core job.

Qualifications

  • Established work experience in digital strategy in China in a retail bank, insurance carrier or Fintech company, prominent management consulting firm or research institute with activities in the financial services industry. Candidates typically have formulated digital marketing or digital commerce strategy and implemented such programs. Personal participation in social platforms is a plus, but not required.

  • Superior listening, critical thinking, and writing skills, as well as memorable presentation skills. Analysts are expected to take complex, disparate ideas and distil them into simple, provocative concepts — and be willing to take a stand on vendors and outcomes.
  • Fluency in Mandarin and English; other languages are a plus.
  • The ability to travel 25% to 40% of the time.
