Associate Consultant

Fuel your intellectual curiosity and professional growth. Forrester is an idea company, where smart, motivated, curious people bring a diversity of opinions and the courage of their convictions to collaborate on ideas that change the course of business. Most of all, bring a point of view; here, every voice has value. At Forrester, you’ll work with innovative clients at emerging and established brands; these are the business and technology leaders we inspire and who inspire us. The Forrester experience is built on a singular, powerful purpose: to challenge thinking and lead change.

About This Role:

The Associate Consultant plays a crucial role in delivering consulting engagements for marketing and strategy clients, which include customer experience, digital business, customer insights, and marketing optimization practice domains. This is a client-facing role, and you can expect to be heavily involved in working directly with Forrester clients on their most challenging initiatives. At the same time, you will be expected to project-manage engagements and help administer the running of the practice. You will be working with a team of highly experienced consultants, and we’re looking for someone that can jump right in.

The ideal candidate has some project management experience and exposure to one or more areas of customer experience, digital or customer insights, and/or business development. We are looking for someone who has personal gravitas above their actual professional experience — you may be new to consulting, but we want you to be able to hold your own in front of clients. You must have a very high level of intellectual curiosity and a strong desire to learn, applying a combination of strong analytic, written, and communication skills. Successful Associate Consultants are also well organized, even under fuzzy circumstances, and ideally have some project management or consulting experience or training. It will be great if you are a Salesforce whizz. We are particularly interested in multilingual candidates who may be business-level fluent in either German, French, Italian, or possibly Spanish.

This is not a great role for you if:

  • You are not good at multitasking. You will likely be working on several unrelated projects (internal and external) at the same time.
  • You are uncomfortable pushing back diplomatically. You will need to manage expectations and occasionally say “no” to colleagues and clients.
  • You need a very structured work environment.
  • You feel intimidated around senior business professionals. The people on the team and the clients you will deal with will be experts in their fields. You will need to have confidence that you are adding value — and an appreciation of when you are not.
  • You must work within 9 a.m.-5 p.m. UK time guidelines. Our clients are in many time zones, so projects may sometimes require working odd hours to hit certain milestones.

The role is based out of the London office, and you are expected to work in the office on most days when you are not at a client site. Travel could be up to 70% at times and may involve air travel to anywhere within Europe, the Middle East, or Africa.

  • Contribute to the delivery of consulting projects by conducting interviews with clients, customers, and partners; conducting surveys; applying analytic frameworks; co-facilitating client workshops; synthesizing client data; conducting analyses; and developing conclusions and recommendations.
  • Partner with other members of Forrester’s consulting team to create high-quality, well-structured, and user-friendly PowerPoint (or MS Word/Excel) client deliverables.
  • Achieve personal performance targets that contribute to consulting’s overall performance.
  • Develop sample deliverables, delivery templates, and marketing materials.
  • Act as project manager for multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Undertake extensive learning (both formal and on the job), building consulting and specialized practice domain expertise.
  • Support the administration of projects and the consulting practice within Forrester’s systems.
  • Codify and support the management of consulting content within knowledge management systems.
  • Work closely with other teams across Forrester, such as Forrester Events, Forrester Data, Forrester Connect, and internal marketing and finance.

  • A combined minimum of two to four years of management consulting, project management, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: digital business, strategy, customer experience, customer insights, and project management.
  • Superior communication and client-facing interpersonal skills (face to face, email, and phone).
  • Experience engaging with business leaders.
  • Formal project management experience or training.
  • An appreciation for and the ability to apply top-tier form factors (look and feel) to deliverables.
  • Very strong and speedy analytical capabilities.
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with others in high-pressure situations.
  • Experience working with very experienced senior-level experts.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Strong PowerPoint, Word, and Excel skills.
  • The ability to travel up to 70% of the time.
